The brokerage operation, now operated by NRT Incorporated, was originally founded in 1976 as an international real estate service for the clients of Sotheby's, the venerable, two-centuries-old auction house. The company quickly broadened its reach by offering top local real estate brokerages with a powerful marketing and referral program for fine properties serving a range of customers and locations. The affiliate system is being integrated into a full, luxury franchise system under a separate company, Sotheby's International Realty Affiliates, Inc.
